be aware - fixed gearSep 18, 2010
By jim g My 3 yr old daughter learned to balance on a 2 wheels using a SKUUT bike (aka balance bike)
And now she wants a real pedal bike to ride with her big brother.
This bike looked like a great deal for a step up towards the 16" wheel bike we have waiting for her to grow in to.
WARNING.
This bike does not have a freewheeling rear hub.. and no coaster brake.
The gearing is "fixed" meaning the pedals turn with the wheel. (like a unicycle or fixed gear track bike)
This means the child is ALWAYS pedaling or thier feet must be removed from the pedals.
Thats fine when riding with the training wheels... But the fixed gear makes it flat out dangerous as a true 2 wheeler bike.
The tires on this bike are solid foam rubber-like composite on a poly spoked wheel. The tires are NOT the standard rubber tire with air tube.
The composite material used for the tire is not a very good choice for 2 wheel riding.. Less than optimal grip to the pavement.
I would NOT recommend this bike for purposes of coaching your child to balance on two wheels. It is fine for use with training wheels in very conservative use in protected areas.
At best this bike is a substitute for a tricycle..
I don't see much value in it towards stepping up towards a "real" bicycle.
Too bad really.. the rest of the bike is OK quality, nice decoration,.. especially given the price.
I have purchased a different 12" wheel bike to replace this one.

Terrible quality and brokenApr 03, 2010
By Jill Morris We bought this bike for our 3 year old. He was so excited to have his own bike. Unfortunately, the box was damanged. The damange ended up breaking the hub of one of the wheels. The wheels are plastic and are terrible quality. Regular metal spoke wheels and hubs would be a much better bet. The company did email us a return label and paid for the shipping back, though we are still waiting for our money to be refunded.
