5good 'n simple, even toaster, like 31115Dec 19, 2008
By hanshan mtn.
The 31114 is same or nearly same as proctor silex 31115 which I couldn't get anywhere. I wanted a simple toaster oven to toast or bake evenly, not a big bulky fancy convection oven - for that amount of counter space I might as well use the regular oven. Amazon listed the 31115 in stock with two vendors but neither turned out to be able to get it. Searched online, Toaster-oven.net had this and another few models, at reasonable cost. Ticking isn't that loud as one 31115 review complained - distinct enough in kitchen, but don't hear it much from another room. Toasts breads or english muffin or bakes my chicken wings evenly. Compared to my ancient, finally-expired toaster-oven (costs too much to get parts & have fun repairing, if could find the right parts without hassle), this new one differs in that it has a single fat element on top and on bottom, not two - which somehow do a pretty even job, unlike most toaster ovens today, or pop-up toasters. That's why I got it. Unlike other gizmos, I don't need bells & whistles and want my toaster to be mechanically simple, so if it breaks it's cheap to either fix or replace, and it's less likely to break because it's simple (we hope). Has a bit deeper baking pan than the old toaster oven too (good - & BTW, alum foil works fine for lining it to save gunkyness, as long as you wrap it neatly around the edges, not leaving big floppy edges hanging down or sticking up). For this review, I checked to see if 4 slices of bread do fit into it, and they do, though I don't need that. Keep an eye on your toast in the beginning to learn where on the dial your toast darkness preference is reached, and RTFM (read the simple instructions when you get it) which say to set the upper dial on the toast icon, then turn the lower dial past the 5 minute mark to initialize it, and then backwards to your preferred toast setting. Bell rings when time's up. Door has a very nice downward-curving handle that stayed cool, made it handy to open the door. Doesn't take up a lot of counterspace - it's a traditional style and simple toaster oven, which is exactly what I wanted but harder to find nowadays. I like the slight curve towards the top which makes the top slightly narrower than the bottom - makes it feel more compact than it already is, without affecting internal capacity. The company makes similar black models, too, if you don't like white.
Addendum 1 year later: Still working great!

5Great Toaster OvenMar 02, 2009
By Linda Maty "picky consumer"
I spent countless hours and waisting gas $ driving to K-Mart, Target, Walmart, etc. trying to find a simple toaster oven to replace my Black & Decker. I knew what features I wanted and knew what I did not want. No "bells" and "whistles". Just something dependable that would toast without burning the bread. My decision was made to purchase this Proctor Silex model based strictly on the review I saw here. From how the review was written, I could tell this was the toaster oven for me. After having used this oven for about a month now, I can say this oven is great. It toasts evenly and the bread is crisp,(like toast should be),not dried out. We eat only wheat or whole-grain breads and sometimes that will toast differently than white bread. But this toaster oven does a great job on everything. It's the same for bagles and re-heating piza slices. BE SURE TO READ THE DIRECTION BOOKLET BEFORE USING. I can't stress this enough. If you don't, be prepared to be somewhat frustrated at first. You DO have to follow the directions, especailly turning the dial past the #5 setting - then turn it back again to get the exact darkness of toast you prefer. Also make sure the other dial is set on "toast" mode. But if you read the book, you'll be fine and it's really easy. I like that this toaster oven only has two dials and not three. I especially like the "look" and size of this toaster oven. It doesn't take up much space on the counter. Also, I really like the handle. The complete unit stays pretty cool while in operation so you don't have to worry about having things on the sides of it getting hot. Anyone looking for a simple, straight-forward toaster oven can't go wrong with this Proctor Silex 31114 Extra-Large Oven/Broiler. Don't be fooled by the "Extra-Large" name. It's actually the same size as my old toaster oven.

3Functional, roomy, easy to use, but perhaps underpowered.Apr 25, 2009
By Peter Venetoklis
Basic toaster oven, does what you'd expect. It's a pleasant enough design, the controls are straightforward, and it's roomy enough inside. I find it a bit underpowered, but that seems to be the trend with newer toaster oven models. I replaced a couple venerable old-school Black and Decker models with a couple newer toaster ovens, this being one of them, and have concluded that they aren't making them quite as hot as they used to. Still, as far as such things go, you'll do fine with this model.

4Toaster oven reviewJun 05, 2009
By R. E. Lee
This is one of the best looking toaster ovens I have ever owned in over 30 years. It does a great job toasting but have not used it yet as an oven. Only complaint is you have to remember to put the temp control on toast or it won't get hot enough to toast properly. Another one is the ticking of the timer which I have not had in a oven since the 1970's. Otherwise it is very good for the $$$.

4Proctor Silex Toaster Oven/BroilerMay 19, 2009
By Wes Jacobs "Mr. Photo Man"
We've had this item for about three weeks now. For the money, it does everything asked of it. The frozen pizza comes out delicious; broiled three hot dogs the other day and they came out perfect. We heated many other foods that was fast and easy. Haven't tried the toaster option as we have a dependable toaster. The only negative about this purchase is the shipping and handling charges. I feel they were excessive. Highly recommend you buy one.
