 Fun machine but microphones could be better.Jan 21, 2010

My 9 year old daughter wanted a karaoke machine for Christmas. Originally, Santa brought her a Singing Machine Top-Load CDG Karaoke System with 5.5'' B&W Monitor and USB/SD Card Slot. When that machine wouldn't even read a CD on Christmas morning we took it back and started the search again.
As you search you will find that no matter which machine you buy, there are tons of complaints and often the machines don't even work out of the box. After spending hours reading reviews from various websites, we opted for this one. Reviews from another website indicated this machine was good with the exception of poor microphone sound.
We had no troubles setting up this machine and it read the CDs fine. We agree the microphone sound is pretty poor but we were able to make it work a little better by adjusting the volume control. The music played fine but you couldn't hear your singing much over the music. We also borrowed a friend's microphones (a different brand) just to see if they worked better. They did.
My daughter loves the machine and the original microphones are working better now after my husband adjusted the volume control. She sings on it all the time. We still think the microphone sound quality isn't the best but she was happy with it and wanted to keep it. We may upgrade the microphones in the future but for now she is content and enjoying it.
So, to sum it up...the machine we bought plays the CDs well, the lyrics are easy to read on the display, and having 2 microphones is a plus over some models. The sound volume of your singing is not the best - the music comes through louder than your singing. But for a child of 8-12, I think it really is just fine.

The video screen started jumping and flashing after the first 10 minutes of use. It then disappeared to a fine white line across the screen. Turning it off then back on usually resets it and we can use it for another 10 minutes or so. Having 2 microphones would be great if they actually worked. The individual controls for each microphone do nothing to increase your voice volumne. Of course ordering on line is easy, but returning a product of this size is not. Don't bother buying this one.

I used this at a New Years Party Jan.2,2010 and the monitor started to break -up. This machine is poorly made and I am very unhappy.

This Karaoke system totally conforms to Made in China label in worst meaning of it. What a waste of money.
I purchased it to my son as Christmas present a year ago.
Microphone holders both cracked in couple weeks - designed from tiny plastic.
Mic's cord wires pulled out of mics within one month. Mics worked on and off.
After six month of VERY LIGHT usage completely failed. All function stopped working, even on/off light was dark. Only screen would show scramble picture (can't explain that phenomena).
Even though it was still on warranty - you would have to pay shipping both way - to Florida and back.
This item is heavy and will cost about $30 to ship both ways. This piece of work doesn't even worth trying to repair.
Save your money and buy good quality one - or at least from company that can service them locally.

The Karaoke System arrived timely, but one of the two microphones did not work. It was a gift for my TWIN sons, which made it more especially difficult with only one microphone. It's an "okay" product, and I would probably buy another one IF I were ever in need of such an item, but I would have been a lot happier with ALL of the parts working. Never bothered to contact the seller, because (1) the seller should have checked it out before selling/shipping; (2)seller probably knew already that the microphone was defective, and I did not want to engage in the trouble of returning it. Key point, here...the seller knew, I am sure, but sold it to me anyway.
