Damaged threads?May 27, 2009
By Jonathan Clay I also bought this product from a retail store. It does have three speeds, they are: loud, louder, and loudest. The tilt feature is practically useless because the fan can't support itself and always falls to the 'down' position. (I guess I'll have to look for that hidden screw.) As if all this wasn't bad enough, when you try to turn the fan, it usually results in the fan cage separating from the motor shaft. To fix it requires opening the cage, removing the fan blades, screwing the plastic wing nut back on, and putting the whole thing back together. I had completed the tedious process several times but this time but this last time I waited a while before fixing it. I didn't realize the motor was still on when the fan cage 'broke' and now the motor is fried. When I turn it on, it only makes it's beep sound. All in all, this fan has been terrible. Luckily for me I only paid around $35 for this worthless thing and not some $50 that Amazon wants for it.

The little engine that could and then couldn't...Jul 30, 2011
By leftfieldhero I actually really like this fan it pushes a high volume of air and kept me cool all last summer. I then took apart the fan and stored it for the winter. I really do like this fan. It has 3 speeds (low was usually enough) the tilt is only about +10 degrees and -5 degrees but it got the job done for me. I like that the height was easily adjustable. I was never worried about it falling over as the base is made well. The remote is simple but functional but I would have liked a holster for it on the fan somewhere.
So well then why the 3 stars. Simple. Reliability. To be fair I've probably put the fan through over 3000 hours total with about 2500 of those hours being consecutive. So I pulled the fan out this summer to deal with the heat and lo' and behold it's become a tired old hag. All I have to say is thank goodness for the 3 year warrenty. Time to talk to customer service. I'm glad they are willing to stand by their products. Here's hoping they will give me a new one. This will be updated to reflect my satisfaction with customer service tomorrow.
-Update- (7/30/11) I will be changing my rating on this review from 3 stars to 4 stars simply because of the customer service provided by Sunbeam which is owned by Jarden. All I needed were 2 simple pieces of information and boom the representative apologized and is sending me an upgraded replacement free of charge (including shipping) as they do not carry this fan any longer. I had to make sure it had a remote because they were offering me a different product without one. And I can understand wanting to save a dollar but their computers should at least indicate that a remote is something desired and if your fan has one you'd like a replacement with one. I'm extremely satisfied with customer service overall. It's a 3 star fan with 5 star customer service.

Very LOUDApr 24, 2009
By Rubybear I bought this at a retail store, and 30 days have already passed to return it. If I could return it, I would.
On the lowest setting, it is so loud that I have to turn my TV up 3 'clicks' louder. The other speed settings are off the noise charts. It has 5 thin fan blades, rather than 3 wide ones, like my old one. Perhaps that's why it's so noisy.
The remote turns it on/off, and the 3 speeds. One button, you just keep pushing until you have your setting. Takes 2 AAA batteries, not included. Same one-push button on the pole, in front of the blades.
It is a bit flimsy, the fan wants to tilt down on its own. I had to really tighten the screw (hidden, but I found it), hopefully it will stay. The only positive thing I have to say is it is lightweight, and has a nice small footprint. No large cross-type stand to stub your toes on.
Sunbeam SSF1600RC-U 16-Inch 3-Speed Oscillating Stand Fan with Remote ControlMay 15, 2011
By Shirley Lee The fan arrived in good condition. I do appreciate the remote control; I hadn't realized fans now came with these. It is extremely handy. The only flaw, and it may be just this individual unit, is a slight rattle which precludes my using it in the bedroom as I had planned. It's not loud, but it's annoying when I'm trying to fall asleep. So it's a livingroom fan and fine for that. I like it.

Have only used it a few times so far but am happy with it. I'm using it in an apartment living room. The lowest setting is a little high for the size of the room but have noticed on the reviews it's showing up as a "kitchen" fan. Think it'd be flawless in that type of setting. I'm happy with it for even for my purposes and don't have to run it as long at a time.
