Good Sound for the moneyDec 08, 2009
By Ross D. Orr
"Fun Daddy"
Very good sound for a "Mini Shelf" system but then, it is not very small so make sure you have room and able to hold 146 pounds. The Bass boost is in deed heavy bass and vibrates things (probably too good for late hours in most places). Sound is still pretty good without bass boost with a little extra volume. I think Sony needs to make a half bass boost which probably would be the best sound on many occassions.
Like the Ipod input for my use and also so friends caneasily bring and play music they like. It looks "cool" but not sophistcated, Not the greatest sound
but it is good and for the price, I have no regrets.

Beter than expectedDec 13, 2009
By Evelyn Neely When looking at the stereos that you had I saw this stereo I said why not, it looks good, the ratings from cusomrs wer good and the discription of the stereo sounded good. When it arrived we hooked it up and we give it a 5 star because its great. Easy to hook up, easy to program, and the ipod hookup is great. It was a great buy for the money. The sound has great clarity.

Big Bang For the $$$$$$$Dec 15, 2010
By John A. Howe Jr. I bought this stereo because I want to "feel", as well as well as hear my music.I wanted a deep, thumping bass that will shake and rattle the windows. This is it!!!
I have tested this unit playing the Rolling Stones,Bad Company,Beatles(basically classic rock).....using the CD Player.
This is like having a PA system in your home...and as prior revewiers have mentioned, you might have to live in fear that your neighbors might call the cops for disrupting the peace--if there is really such a law.
My only gripe is that in the owners manual it states that it is not IPHONE compatible. But it accepts IPODS. Bonus:Phono Inputs!!!!.......Listen to your old record albums with rich, deep bass!!!! It's not the most attractive piece of equipment, but for $500-600........ it gets the job done in a big way.
This does not support D-light sync lighting as stated in Amazon's description.Good thing because the adaptor needed is nowhere to be found---it's not being manufactured by Sony anymore.
UPDATE AFTER 6 MONTHS OF USE......
It is money well spent...fantastic booming bass.I've had alot of systems over the years, and this can't be beat for the price.Speakers will handle all the volume your ears will ever want.It will really rock your world!!Did I mention the wonderful bass??Simply incredible!!!

LOUD!!!Nov 28, 2010

My parents wanted a good sound system for their 25th anniversary party and I found this. I got it for $560. The the settings for the equalizer are a little finicky, but after playing around a little I was able to set it up well. If when you use it you have the speakers right beside the receiver, and you use an iPod with an accelerometer, make sure you turn off shake to shuffle because the bass that this sound system produces will cause your iPod to start freaking out! That's what happened at my parent's party and the guests began to complain. The sound quality seems great, although I am not an audiophile. The main reason I preferred to buy this over a 1000 watt home theater in a box is because the woofers are so large that turning up the volume won't damage the speakers.
AmazingDec 29, 2011
By JMarcoux I bought this setup back in early 2008 from Best Buy and it is still running like new. I've held house parties, barracks parties and even helped host a block party (all of which I've used this system). Almost 4 years later, this thing is still my primary sound system in my living room. I have moved 4 times with the Military (and if anyone has done that before, they know how bad the moving companies are) and I don't have so much as a scratch on this thing. IT IS HEAVY, but it's built like a brick because of it. There are some plastic pieces I was worried would be broke, but after all those moves, one being from Kentucky to Germany, every piece is in it's place with no cracks. Like the other reviews, it is a monstrous piece of equipment and takes up a bit of space and it is pretty gaudy for being a primary home system. This thing has most every option you could ever need for a quick plug and play machine without the 10 different pieces to wire together. Personally, I've only used the X-Groove (which is essentially a "Bass Boost" on older stereos) only once, and my neighbors called the police because 2 pictures were rattled off their wall (their house was about 10 feet from mine). I use this in conjunction with a blu-ray player, xbox and a Sony Bravia LED and it's only hooked up with the headphone jack (my TV is a German model and doesn't support RCA cables for some reason - only HDMI and DVI) and it's split to the red/white RCA cables and it still does great with surround while playing Xbox or anything I hook up to my TV. I've come to the conclusion that when I keep my TV on volume level 20 (out of 80) and put the stereo to 35, I can't be in the same room with it because it's so loud. I don't know about the difference between quality with having the speakers stacked or having them seperated as I have always had mine seperated to be used for surround sound. And the system works well with most universal remotes (even the ones that come with your everyday cable boxes, just look at the remote manual under SONY and try all the different combos and one will work) so there really is no need to have a remote. I lost the remote years ago, and still never have to get up to manually turn the volume up or down.
All in all, personally, I have no negatives about this system whatsoever with the exception that it could use a HDMI input for the video link, but I understand that back when this was designed and made, that wasn't a big thing. I'm just surprised that they haven't changed a thing on it but I guess when you have something this good, there's no need to alter it
