5Awesome Headphones!!! 5 Stars for rich sound!May 31, 2008
By Olaf Johnson
I'm an avid iPod Touch (for podcasts)/iRiver H10(for music and sound quality) user and during my 1+ hour commute from Westchester to Manhattan for work I've been using the Sony Fontopia MDR-EX51 in ear headphones for the last 2 years. I just got a serious ear infection from them last month due to the rubber tips wearing out, breaking off and irritating my inner ear canal (be warned). Those Fontopias had the best all around sound for value and I didn't realize until I tried to use the OEM apple iPod earphones and found them to be horrible in comparison to the Sony. Also the iPod earphones irritated my already infected ears.
Since then, after a month of shopping around and trying different over-the-ear styles of headphones, I stumbled onto these $9 Cobys in China Town. Although I never really bought this brand before I'm very well aware of their cheap prices and effy quality. So it was by accident that I bought these during my lunch break with my lunch money. I needed headphones at the time ASAP and it was a spontaneous buy only based on the $9 price tag and the cool design of these headphones. I've been loving them ever since. They completely block out the subway rumble and play my music (I listen to alot of Electronica, Hip-Hop, Reggae and Jazz)and podcasts crisp and clear. Also they are very light and don't give you sweaty ears like the bigger pricier Sony MDR-D777.

PROS: -Sound is Rich and full of Bass. You do not have to turn it up to hear your music even if its loud in your environment.
-Design is comfortable and light. Also the cups pivot and tilt to give a perfect fit and allows for precise adjustments.
-Volume dial on the cord is always useful when you don't want to get Pizza grease on your iPod Touch.
-One cord from the cups to the plug is sweet! Minimal cordage eliminates tangles completely.
-PRICE! $9.00 and you will be as happy as people that spend more.
-Looks cool. Really cool!

CONS:
-Right out the wrapper you can see that these aren't as durable as other pricier brands. Drop them hard and they feel like they would break into a lot of pieces. That said, they still feel firm and solid in hand and when you wear them but if you have a habit of breaking your toys or dropping things a lot get ready to buy a few of these during the year. But at $9 I can't really say bad about that.
- Not really fold-able. Don't know what they mean by that. All you can do with these is contract the band and bring the cups together.
- They stick out. The white shell seem to extend out a lot more than I would've like. They don't feel bulky or uncomfortable, but when I look in the mirror I feel like I should be out landing Airplanes with some ATCs.

NOTE: Coby makes similar models (the CV-193 & CV-520) to this that claims to have Noise Cancelling & "High Performance" features. A friend got those thinking it was what I'd bought only to find out that those are more heavy, more bulky, are less adjustable and do not really cancel noise anymore than these plus you need to buy batteries for them to work. And we found that the CV-163 actually has a richer bass sound output than those pricier models.

1Good sound, breaks easily < 5 daysJan 20, 2010
By A. Mendoza
Received Friday - broke the next Wednesday.
The sound is pretty decent. Every headphones nowadays are stereo, so if the sound isn't good, first look to what the quality is of the music you are playing. So I have no complaints about the sound.
They were great at keeping out outside talking for the most part, and I love the in line volume control.
But, by collapsible they mean that they snap in half at the top, and you have to snap it back in. I accidentally snapped it off and snapping it back in is not a *snap. The plastic is so cheap it bends easily, meaning that you bend it in the slightest and it will not ever snap in again right.
So quality of sound: good.
Quality of construction: terrible.
And we all know that if the construction is terrible and breaks then it doesn't matter how good the sound is if we can't use it.. Returning it, will give an update later of what I went with next.

4a lot of bang for the buckFeb 09, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised when I received the headset. I use them when I'm on the treadmill and watching tv. I can lower the volume on the headset and listen to the tv or I can raise the volume at my pleasure. This one of the best purchases I've made this year. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to manage their sound from the headset rather than having reach for their Ipod volume control. And it is relatively inexpensive. Hooray!!!

By B. W. Blackman "Asuma"
Within a couple of days the volume button stopped working, it seems like these headphones are poorly made.

3good but not greatAug 20, 2010
By Naresh Mohan "Naresh"
the had phones overall build quality is good, the cushion on ear and making of product are all good. I felt the cord length was a a bit short compared to standard head phone cord lengths. sound quality as i rated is 3 star, sound quality is good not great but definitely not bad. Outside Noise cancellation is good. Overall worth the money if it is less than $5 excluding shipping.
