It's just about perfect (for me)Aug 25, 2006

"The Happy Hermit"
I've had this coffee maker for about a week and have used it every morning. It works just fine - quiet, simple, very basic. I especially appreciate the black fill markings inside where the water goes, this is so helpful to those of us with not-so-great vision. The only thing that I wish it had is a removeable lid on the carafe. Washing and drying the carafe would be so much easier if the lid snapped off. I've tried gently to take it from its hinge but it does not come away and I don't want to force it. UPDATE - I am now able to remove the lid for ease of washing and rinsing. I just had to sort of force it off one day and it has gotten easier now to take off and put back on. If they had said the lid was removeable in the instructions I would have tried sooner.
Cheap Carafe Broke: BadJul 16, 2011
By KnowsTooMuch I bought this maker on the rebound from another one I use to love. It was 10 bucks at a hardware store sale. We lived happily together for about six months. And then, in routine washing, the brush I used, with a very slight tap on the glass in the process of cleaning the inside, broke a hole about the size of the quarter on the side of the carafe near the bottom. That's what made me run away from my earlier marriage to a serviceable, but blessedly cheap and low-brow, coffeemaker. Carafe replacements are more than what I paid for the whole thing. The marriage didn't last long, but I will be damned if I have to buy a Krupp or any one of those high end, flashy coffeemakers.

a horror to clean (I wanted to give a minus star)Sep 13, 2007
By Culture Vulture is there a special designer out there beavering away, working to make silly horribly complicated to clean household items? obviously.
please: madam/sir -- go work for NASA or, better, work on developing alternative energy sources.
